THEME
"It Begins with Me; end gender-based violence for a peaceful Gauteng"“On the 27th of November 2020 the Bertha Gxowa Foundation Trust in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial legislature launched a 16 Days of Activism Against Violence on Women and Children – an awareness campaign to bring attention to the plight of victims of gender based-violence in Ekurhuleni, where the Foundation has rolled out a significant number of programmes and projects.
The campaign was launched at the Alberton City Hall with a call-to-action to the community to fight gender-based violence possible.
“In line with this year’s theme: ‘It begins with me; end gender-based violence for a peaceful Gauteng’, participants pledged support by wearing a white ribbon for the duration of the 16 Days’ campaign – which symbolizes peace and harmony. This program heeds the call of President Cyril Ramapohosa to observe 5 Days of Mourning for Victims of COVID-19 and Gender Violence. The event ended with a symbolic candle-lighting ceremony where messages of support were shared”
